KT&G SangSang Madang Daechi Branch is currently accepting
submissions for the “Sangsang Stage Challenge”, an original musical support
program, with applications open until September 14.
Launched in 2017, the SangSang Stage Challenge is part of KT&G’s
ongoing cultural contribution initiatives aimed at discovering and nurturing
original Korean musicals. Over the years, the program has introduced a number
of successful works to the public, including “The Fiction” which has been
staged five times, as well as “Mary Shelley,” “Dear My Laika,” and “Kims.”
These productions have gone on to establish themselves as notable creative
musicals in the domestic theater scene.
The competition welcomes a wide range of submissions, including both
premiere works and returning productions that have been revised or
supplemented. Eligible entries must be able to run for a minimum of 24
performances over a four-week period and must not infringe upon any copyrights.
Applications can be submitted via the KT&G SangSang Madang website
(www.sangsangmadang.com).
The final winner will be announced in late October, following a
two-stage screening process consisting of a document review and an interview.
The selected musical will receive 10 million KRW in production support,
complimentary use of the KT&G SangSang Madang Daechi Art Hall, and access
to stage equipment, including lighting and sound systems. In addition, ticket
revenue generated during the performance run will be returned to the production
company, providing further financial support.
“Through the SangSang Stage Challenge, we have
continued to introduce original and creative musicals to the public,” said Kim
Cheon-beom, Head of KT&G’s Cultural Contribution Department Performance
Sector. He added, “We remain committed to revitalizing Korea’s performing arts
scene and supporting the discovery of new musical creators.”
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, KT&G SangSang Madang has grown into one of Korea’s leading multi-cultural spaces that support creative activities and connect the public with art. The facility attracts around 3.2 million visitors annually. Since its launch as an online community in 2005, SangSang Madang has expanded into five offline multi-cultural spaces in Hongdae, Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and Busan—hosting over 3,000 artistic and cultural programs every year.
