KT&G (President Bang Kyung-man) held an exhibition
on May 7th at KT&G Daechi Gallery featuring the selected works from the
“4th Daechi Artist Fellowship (DAF),” a next-generation visual arts creation
support program.
DAF, run by KT&G SangSang Madang since 2021, aims
to foster the development of diverse contemporary art genres and revitalize the
exhibition culture in Korea. The 4th edition, launched in March this year,
targeted emerging artists with around 10 years of experience and garnered significant
interest from the cultural community, recording an impressive competition ratio
of 163 to 1.
The jury evaluated works based on a balance between
artistic merit and public appeal, ultimately selecting Kim Ha-yoon, a master’s
degree student at the Korea National University of Arts. Kim is recognized for
expanding the concept of painting in everyday life by infusing imagination into
familiar settings.
The selected work, titled “Ceremony,” will be on view
free of charge until July 10th, for a duration of nearly two months. For
more details on the exhibition, visit the KT&G SangSang Madang website
(https://www.sangsangmadang.com).
Kim Jeong-yoon, KT&G Exhibition Director, said, “Discovering
such an outstanding artist through the 4th DAF means a lot to us. We will
continue to take the initiative in supporting emerging artists through a
variety of exhibition projects.”
KT&G
SangSang Madang celebrates its 20th anniversary this year as the platform
operates a variety of cultural programs to support the creative ventures of
upcoming artists. Since its beginnings as an online community in 2005, KT&G
SangSang Madang has expanded to operate five offline cultural hubs in Hongdae,
Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and Busan, contributing to the development of local
arts and culture as well as the expansion of artistic and cultural engagement.
Notable efforts include discovering and supporting new up-and-coming
artists. KT&G SangSang Madang attracts around 3.2 million visitors
annually and hosts over 3,000 artistic and cultural programs every year.
