The KT&G
Welfare Foundation conducted the 2025 Areumdeuri Ecological Restoration
Volunteer Campaign on May 10 at Bukhansan National Park with over 100 KT&G
employees and volunteers.
This volunteer
activity was designed to prevent unauthorized cultivation in the park and to
restore forest areas damaged by household waste and illegal structures.
Participants planted 1,750 native trees, including Korean rosebush and burning
bush, and carried out additional forest-building activities to ensure the
healthy growth of the seedlings.
Since 2013, the
KT&G Welfare Foundation has continued tree-planting efforts at Bukhansan to
help preserve natural parks in urban areas. The foundation has planted a total
of approximately 18,250 trees in the Bukhansan National Park area as of the current
year.
The foundation
also contributed to the recovery from forest fire damages near Naksansa Temple
in Yangyang, Gangwon-do, planting around 38,000 trees between 2006 and 2012.
Furthermore, KT&G is deploying its SangSang Forest campaign to domestic and
international regions that require ecological restoration. These efforts
include establishing a forestry center in Mongolia to tackle desertification
since 2022 and reforestation efforts in Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which
suffered massive wildfire damages.
A KT&G
Welfare Foundation official stated, “We’ve consistently engaged in forest
restoration and creation activities in and out of Korea to help build a
sustainable ecosystem. We will continue to take the initiative in addressing
environmental and a wide range of other societal issues.”
Established in
2003 by KT&G to strengthen community engagement and fulfill its corporate
social responsibility, the KT&G Welfare Foundation provides local welfare
services through eight
regional centers nationwide. It also supports low-income and marginalized
groups and contributes to solving social issues by partnering with social
welfare facilities and promoting a culture of sharing.
