KT&G and Seongdong-gu Office Sign MOU to Discover and Foster Young Social Innovation Entrepreneurs
Public-private partnership with Seongdong-gu Office to jointly support market expansion and
capacity-building for young entrepreneurs and social innovation companies

KT&G (President Bang Kyung-man) and Seongdong-gu Office (District Mayor Yoo Bo-hwa) signed an MOU at Seongdong-gu Office on July 28 to promote the ecosystem for youth entrepreneurship and social innovation companies.
The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from both organizations, including Bae Soo-min, Director of KT&G’s Sustainability Management Division, and Yoo Bo-hwa, District Mayor of Seongdong-gu. The two organizations agreed to work together to support innovative companies that address social issues such as job creation, environmental pollution, and regional depopulation as core elements of their business models.
The MOU is the reinforced version of the youth entrepreneurship support agreement signed in 2018. Under the agreement, KT&G will cooperate in operating Seongdong-gu’s Social Venture Innovation Competition. Seongdong-gu Office will also support companies participating in KT&G’s youth entrepreneurship support platform, KT&G SangSang Planet, by providing opportunities to participate in the Social Venture Expo and assistance in expanding their sales channels.
The two organizations will also jointly promote capacity building for entrepreneurs at KT&G SangSang Planet and Seongdong-gu Office’s Seongdong Youth Entrepreneurship Center, Social Venture Hub Center, and Social Economy Support Center through practical business training and exchanges between programs.
Bae Soo-min, Director of KT&G’s Sustainability Management Division, stated, “We signed this MOU to join Seongdong-gu Office’s sincere efforts to support young entrepreneurs and further develop their capabilities. KT&G will continue to pursue various initiatives to foster young entrepreneurs and revitalize local entrepreneurship and the social venture ecosystem.”
KT&G SangSang Planet is a youth entrepreneurship support platform established by KT&G in 2020 in Seongsu-dong’s Social Venture Valley to foster social innovation entrepreneurs and create jobs for young adults. The facility has established itself as a hub for youth entrepreneurship by providing various growth support programs, including practical skills training and mentoring, as well as programs that promote networking among resident companies.
