KT&G SangSang Madang, operated by KT&G (CEO Bang Kyung-man), has named three artists “Photographers of the Year” in the 17th SangSang Madang Korean Photographer’s Fellowship (SKOPF), an initiative dedicated to supporting Korean photographers. KT&G SKOPF is an artist support program that KT&G SangSang Madang has operated since 2008 to discover and nurture emerging photographers. This year’s open call, held in April, attracted 105 applicants—the largest applicant pool in the program’s history—and resulted in a competition ratio of 35 to 1. The three selected artists—Park Su-bin, Ahn Jae-young, and Hyeon Seon—will each receive activity support worth KRW 6 million and other benefits, including participation in a group exhibition at the Goeun Museum of Photography. At the end of the year, one of them will be named the Final Photographer of the Year and receive additional benefits, including publication of a photobook and funding for a solo exhibition. Kim Jeong-yun, Deputy Head of Exhibitions at KT&G’s Cultural Contribution Department, said, “For the past 17 years, KT&G SKOPF has served as a gateway for promising emerging photographers. We will continue to contribute to the development and expansion of the culture and arts sector by discovering and nurturing emerging artists who will lead the future of Korean photography.” KT&G SangSang Madang serves as a multifaceted cultural and artistic space, supporting the creative activities of emerging artists while offering diverse cultural experiences to the public. Since starting with the online SangSang Madang in 2005, the platform has expanded to five locations, including Hongdae, Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and Busan, contributing to the development of local arts and culture as well as the broadening of artistic and cultural engagement. KT&G SangSang Madang hosts over 3,000 cultural and artistic programs every year.
