KT&G’s Employee Donation Social Contribution Fund “SangSang Fund” Surpasses KRW 50 Billion in Cumula
- Matching employee donations to support underprivileged communities since 2011
KT&G announced that the cumulative amount disbursed from the “KT&G SangSang Fund,” a social contribution fund established through the voluntary participation of its employees, has surpassed KRW 50 billion.
Launched in 2011, the SangSang Fund is formed through a matching grant system in which KT&G matches employee donations by contributing an equal amount when employees voluntarily donate a portion of their monthly salaries. The fund supports vulnerable communities and addresses urgent social issues, with a total of KRW 50.9 billion having been disbursed to date.
The SangSang Fund comprises various operational mechanisms, such as a donation petition program, in which employees directly identify and propose cases involving individuals in welfare blind spots, and a donation market, where employees select and support causes from submitted stories. In January, eight fundraising initiatives are underway, including the supply of kerosene and coal briquettes to support people with disabilities enduring harsh winter conditions in inadequate housing, as well as daily necessities and meal support for underprivileged and elderly individuals.
The SangSang Fund Management Committee has carried out a wide range of sponsorship projects using the fund, including medical and educational assistance, housing environment improvements for marginalized groups who struggle to access welfare benefits, support for the elderly and people with disabilities, and year-end sharing campaigns.
The SangSang Fund has also been used for environmental protection both in Korea and abroad. Last year, KRW 500 million was distributed as disaster relief donations for wildfire-affected areas in the Yeongnam region, including Uiseong and Andong in Gyeongsangbuk-do, as well as KRW 310 million for recovery efforts in wildfire-affected regions in Kazakhstan.
Kang Jeong-taek, Chair of the KT&G SangSang Fund Management Committee, stated, “Our employees take great pride in putting the company’s management philosophy of being a righteous company into practice through the SangSang Fund. We remain committed to fulfilling our social responsibilities as a corporate citizen by expanding a culture of voluntary giving.”
