On April 28, KT&G (CEO Bang Kyung-man) signed an MOU with the Daegu Regional Environmental Office, Yeongyang-gun Office, and the National Institute of Ecology (NIE) to preserve the ecosystem of the Janggumeogi Wetland in Yeongyang. The signing ceremony was attended by Choi Kang-hee, Head of KT&G Yeongju Factory; Cho Eun-hee, Commissioner of the Daegu Regional Environmental Office; Cha Gwang-in, Deputy County Mayor of Yeongyang-gun; and Lee Chang-seok, President of the NIE. Under the agreement, the four organizations will work together to restore the Janggumeogi Wetland in Yeongyang-gun, which is recognized for its rich biodiversity. The organizations also plan to jointly pursue Ramsar Wetland designation, an internationally recognized status granted under the Ramsar Convention. Prior to signing the agreement, KT&G had already been carrying out conservation activities in the area since 2022. The company also plans to support various initiatives aimed at raising community awareness and revitalizing the local economy, including programs designed to strengthen local residents’ capacity for wetland conservation. Choi Kang-hee, Head of KT&G Yeongju Factory, stated, “Through this agreement, KT&G will work to systematically preserve and restore the Janggumeogi Wetland through public-private cooperation. We will strive to help create a sustainable ecological environment together with the local community.” Meanwhile, KT&G has established its environmental vision, “KT&G Green Impact,” to minimize the company’s environmental footprint and strengthen environmental accountability across its value chain. Under the three pillars of “mitigating climate change,” “accelerating the transition to a circular economy,” and “managing natural capital and protecting biodiversity,” KT&G continues to deploy a broad range of environmental management initiatives.
