KT&G (CEO Bang Kyung-man) announced that it received the Presidential Commendation in the overall ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) category at the 2025 Government Awards for Excellence in Sustainable Management, held December 16 at the ST Center in Seoul. The Government Awards for Excellence in Sustainable Management—co-hosted by South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups—are the country’s only government-level awards dedicated exclusively to ESG performance. The awards honor organizations that demonstrate leadership in sustainable management, contributing to industrial competitiveness and the creation of social value. KT&G was cited for its systematic approach to managing environmental risks across its entire value chain, including the development of its mid- to long-term environmental strategy, known as “KT&G Green Impact,” and the achievement of official certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its net-zero emissions goals. The company was also recognized for strengthening governance transparency, including achieving full compliance with key disclosure indicators in its Corporate Governance Report and being named an “Excellent Disclosure Company for Corporate Governance Reports” by the Korea Exchange. Beyond the government award, KT&G has continued to receive recognition from major domestic and global sustainability rating agencies. On December 10, the company became the first in its industry to receive MSCI’s highest ESG rating of “AAA.” In December 2024, KT&G was also included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World Index compiled by S&P Global, highlighting its world-class sustainability performance. A KT&G official stated, “KT&G is committed to creating sustainable value throughout its entire value chain. We will continue to strengthen our ESG management in line with global standards, pursuing both corporate value and positive social impact.”
